Surat-born Rusi Surti made 99 in a Test, but you never saw him make a Test century. His highest score stayed one run short. Follow five grounds in match order: 1. Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. His first Test began against Pakistan on 2 December 1960.
2. Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. In February 1961, he scored 64 at number 3 against Pakistan.
3. The Gabba, Brisbane. January 1968 brought 52 and 64 against Australia.
4. Sydney Cricket Ground. In the next Test that January, he made 29 and 26. Bob Simpson dismissed him in both innings.
5. Eden Park, Auckland. In March 1968, Mark Burgess caught him off Gary Bartlett for 99. That remained his Test best. Across 26 Tests between 1960 and 1969, Surti made 1,263 runs and took 42 wickets. A career deserves more than the century it nearly had. These are later, credited photographs of the actual grounds, not photographs of Surti or his matches. The cover shows Eden Park; the end card shows the Gabba. Which of these innings would you want to watch? Tag a Surti cricket fan and save this.
