Surat: New Civil Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in South Gujarat, now sends pathology and microbiology lab reports straight to patients' WhatsApp as a PDF. Once a sample is tested and the report is verified, it goes automatically to the mobile number given at registration. Patients from Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and nearby villages no longer need to stand in long queues or travel back the next day just to collect a report. Surat Municipal Corporation turns 60 today. The civic body was constituted as the Surat Municipal Corporation on October 1, 1966, after working for decades as the Surat Sudhrai. Since then Surat has grown from a small town into India's eighth largest city, with more than 80 lakh people, known as the Diamond City and among the country's cleanest cities. Its heritage headquarters, the old Mughal Sarai where the Sudhrai began work in 1867, was renamed Shree Tapi Bhavan in March. On this 60th birthday, SMC has set a new goal: a world-class Surat by 2047.
