4 Firearms, 9 Live Rounds Seized from Panposh Circuit House; 7 Arrested Rourkela, August 16: Raghunathpali Police have seized four firearms and nine live rounds during a late-night raid at the Panposh Circuit House in Rourkela. Acting on information that some youths were allegedly involved in an illegal firearms deal inside a room, a special police team conducted a surprise raid and detained seven youths, who were subsequently arrested. The arrested persons have been identified as Bikash Dunguri, Sagar Sahu, Narayan Sahu, Rajesh Sahu, Kartar Singh, Rajesh Srivastava and Vicky Sharma. They are reportedly from Rourkela and Berhampur.

Former Army Jawan Swept Away in Strong Current, Rescue Operation Underway Rajgangpur, August 16 (SatyaNewsAlert): A 46-year-old former Army jawan, identified as Sunil Tigga, has gone missing after being swept away along with his motorcycle in the strong current of the Nakti Nala near Kesramal Bridge under Alanda Gram Panchayat in Rajgangpur police station limits. According to reports, Sunil Tigga, a resident of Gariamal village, was travelling on his motorcycle at around 6:30 pm on Saturday when he was caught in the strong water current near Kesramal Bridge and swept away along with his bike. After receiving information about the incident, police and fire services personnel immediately launched a rescue operation. However, the search was hampered by darkness and had to be suspended during the night. The rescue operation resumed early Sunday morning, with fire services personnel carrying out an extensive search in the Nala to trace the missing former serviceman. Meanwhile, villagers managed to recover Sunil Tigga’s motorcycle from the Nakti Nala. Rajgangpur MLA Dr. C.S. Rajan Ekka, Kesramal Sarpanch Binay Bhushan Barla, along with police and administrative officials, are present at the spot and monitoring the ongoing rescue operation. Despite continued efforts, Sunil Tigga remains untraced, and the search operation is underway.

UGIE Alumni Association Inaugurates ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’, Launches Tree Plantation Drive Rourkela, August 16, 2026: (SatyaNewsAlert) The UGIE Alumni Association, Rourkela, inaugurated ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’ and organised a tree plantation drive at the campus of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Institute of Engineering (UGIE), Rourkela, on Sunday morning. The programme, held at 8:30 am, was conducted with enthusiasm under the theme “Green UGIE, Clean UGIE.” Raghunathpali MLA and Chairman of the Sundargarh District Planning Committee Durga Charan Tanti attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Rourkela MLA and Patron of the UGIE Alumni Association Er. Around 300 Saplings Planted As part of the plantation drive, around 300 saplings were planted on the UGIE campus. Various species, including Terminalia, Syzygium, China Doll, Kachchamp, Kaner, Mandar and Bougainvillea, were planted to enhance the beauty of the garden and make the campus greener. A Step Towards Environmental Awareness The ‘Gyan Dwar Udyan’ is envisioned not merely as an initiative to beautify the UGIE campus but as a meaningful symbol of the harmony between knowledge, nature and environmental conservation. With floodwater entering their homes, the affected families were forced to leave their houses and take shelter on the roadside along with their children and belongings. Two more houses remain surrounded by floodwater, leaving the residents stranded. The administration has launched rescue and relief operations in the affected area. Farmers Trapped in Floodwater While Harvesting Pointed Gourd, Rescued After 3 Hours . Bonai, August 16 (SatyaNewsAlert): Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life and transportation across several parts of the Bonai subdivision. While roads have been washed away in parts of Koida Block, flood-like conditions have emerged in several areas of Bonai, creating concern among local residents. According to reports, some farmers had cultivated pointed gourd near Bijadihi under Bonai Police Station limits. The farmers had gone to their fields to harvest pointed gourds when floodwater suddenly entered the area following continuous heavy rainfall. Caught off guard by the rapidly rising water, the farmers desperately sought a safe place and took shelter on nearby trees to save their lives. They reportedly remained stranded on the trees for nearly three hours, as strong currents and rising water made it impossible for them to return to safety. After receiving information about the incident, the Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Following sustained efforts, the stranded farmers were safely rescued from the trees. They were subsequently taken to Gurundia Hospital for medical examination and treatment. The incident highlights the danger posed by sudden flooding following heavy rainfall in the Bonai subdivision. With several low-lying areas witnessing a rise in water levels, residents have been urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing near rivers, streams, flooded agricultural fields and other waterlogged areas.
Heavy Rain Washes Away Main Road in BadaBalijore, Communication Cut Off Koida, August 16 (Satya News Alert): Heavy rainfall has severely damaged the main road of Badabalijore village under Soyamba Gram Panchayat in Koida Block. Continuous rain since last night has caused the river water level to rise, washing away the soil beneath the road. Around 20–25 feet of the road has completely collapsed, creating a large gap underneath, while strong water currents continue to flow through the damaged section. Stones and soil have also been washed away. With the road completely damaged, vehicular movement has come to a standstill. Cars, motorcycles and even ambulances are unable to reach the village, leaving residents effectively cut off from the outside world. The situation has also created serious difficulties for school students, who are facing problems while travelling to and from school. Residents fear that attempting to cross the damaged stretch could lead to a major accident. Villagers are also struggling to reach the market, hospital, Panchayat office and Block office, forcing them to take a much longer route. A tree has also fallen near the damaged stretch, further adding to the difficulties. Villagers have urged the administration to immediately repair the road and restore communication, warning that continued rainfall could lead to a serious mishap if urgent action is not taken.
Four Feet of Water Floods Bridge, Traffic Disrupted Bonai, August 16 (Satya News Alert): Around four feet of water is flowing over the Seemajore Bridge, which connects Jangala in Bonai Block with the Bahadapashi National Highway, disrupting vehicular movement in the area. Due to the rising water level, commuters travelling from Rourkela towards Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Keonjhar are being forced to turn back. The administration has closed the affected route as a precautionary measure and is stopping and diverting vehicles attempting to cross the bridge. The situation has arisen following continuous heavy rainfall throughout last night, which caused the water level to rise sharply over the bridge.
