Tatkal Ticket Black Marketing Raises Questions Over Larger Railway Racket
Rourkela, September 29, 2026 (SatyaNewsAlert): The alleged black marketing of Tatkal railway tickets is not confined to Rourkela but is reportedly prevalent across the country. The scale and organised nature of illegal ticket bookings have raised questions over whether such activities could be carried out by just one or two touts.
There are growing concerns that a larger network may be operating behind the illegal ticket-booking racket. Questions have also been raised over the alleged involvement or assistance of railway insiders, as such organised activities would be difficult to sustain without access to booking systems and other resources.
In the latest action, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Rourkela Railway Station arrested a suspected tout on September 28. E-tickets, both fresh and previously booked, with a total value of around Rs 41,000, were reportedly seized from his possession.
The arrested accused was subsequently forwarded to court.
However, the arrest has also raised a larger question: Will the arrest of a single tout be enough to stop an alleged racket of this scale?
There is a growing demand for a comprehensive investigation into the illegal ticket-booking network to identify the source of the tickets and determine whether other individuals, including any railway personnel, are involved. A thorough probe could help uncover the wider network and establish the responsibility of all those allegedly connected with the illegal trade.
