Ring Road in Poor Condition Raises Safety Concerns in Rourkela
Rourkela, September 29, 2026 (SatyaNewsAlert): Rourkela is known as a Smart City and has earned the distinction after Bhubaneswar. However, the condition of several roads in the city appears to be far from “smart,” with the Ring Road emerging as a major cause for concern.
The stretch of the Ring Road from Birsa Munda Chowk to Hanuman Vatika Chowk has deteriorated significantly. Large potholes have developed at several locations, posing a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians.
The condition at Bania Gate Chowk and near Sarana Chowk is particularly alarming. According to reports, accidents are occurring frequently along the stretch due to the poor road condition.
On Monday, a student of Municipal College reportedly sustained serious injuries in a road accident, once again highlighting the safety concerns faced by commuters.
Although assurances were reportedly given during Ganesh Puja that the damaged road would be repaired, no substantial work has been carried out so far. With the festive season approaching, residents have urged the administration to take immediate steps to ensure safe and smooth movement of traffic.
People have also demanded that the Rourkela Steel Plant authorities undertake urgent repairs of the Ring Road and restore the stretch before the upcoming festivals to prevent further accidents and inconvenience to commuters.
