Today we covered the 12th consecutive year of the Shree Amarnath Jalabhishek Kavad Padyatra organized by World Welfare Organisation. Over 5,000 pilgrims dressed in saffron began their 55-kilometer barefoot journey from Nagarwel Hanuman Temple to Amarnath Dham (Gandhinagar-Mahudi Highway). From a bicycle to building one of India’s biggest consumer brands a journey that changed the detergent industry forever. In 1969, Amdavad based Dr. Karsanbhai Patel was working a government job while spending his evenings experimenting with making an affordable detergent in a small room at home. At a time when detergent powders were considered expensive for the average Indian household, he introduced Nirma at just ₹3.50 per kilogram, making quality cleaning products accessible to millions. Carrying packets on his bicycle, he personally went door to door, earning customers’ trust one home at a time. The brand was named after his daughter, Nirupama, making the story even more personal. Soon, the iconic “Washing Powder Nirma” jingle became one of India’s most memorable advertisements, turning Nirma into a household name.
