Okay, let’s do some Mumbai real estate maths.

A 3 BHK at Lodha World One starts at around ₹12.73 crore according to Lodha’s current listing.

Now imagine trying to build that kind of wealth purely through a salary.

If you managed to save:

₹50,000 a month → ₹6 lakh a year
₹1 lakh a month → ₹12 lakh a year
₹2 lakh a month → ₹24 lakh a year

Saving the entire ₹12.73 crore would take roughly:

₹50K/month → 212 years 😭
₹1L/month → 106 years
₹2L/month → 53 years

Of course, nobody realistically saves the entire property value in cash before buying.

For a home loan above ₹75 lakh, the RBI framework caps the loan to value at 75%, meaning a buyer may need around 25% of the property value upfront.

For ₹12.73 crore, that is roughly ₹3.18 crore upfront.

Even saving ₹2 lakh every month, without considering investment returns, would take around 13 years just to reach that amount.

And that is before stamp duty, registration, interiors, maintenance and other costs.

So for a regular salaried person, buying a home at this price purely through monthly income and savings can be extremely difficult.

At this level, it generally takes a very high income, substantial existing wealth, successful business income, investments or family wealth to make a purchase like this realistic.

Basically, this isn’t just a luxury home.
It’s a different level of wealth. 👀

A major change is coming for Mumbai flyers.

Mumbai International Airport Limited has announced that Terminal 1 will stop handling flight operations from October 25 as the terminal undergoes a major redevelopment.

The redevelopment is expected to continue through 2029 30. Airlines operating from T1 can shift their flights to Terminal 2 or Navi Mumbai International Airport or temporarily suspend services during the transition.

T1 handled nearly 15 million passengers in FY 2025 26, so this is a change that Mumbai travellers will definitely feel. If you’re flying from Mumbai after October 25, check your terminal carefully before leaving for the airport.

UPI was built around convenience and zero charges for everyday users. Now the proposed MDR on certain merchant payments above ₹2,000 is raising concerns in Mumbai.

A survey cited by The Hindu found that four in five Mumbaikars are unwilling to bear the MDR cost if merchants pass it on to customers.

Under the new framework, MDR will apply to specified merchant transactions above ₹2,000 from October 15. However, customers are not directly charged the MDR. Person to person UPI payments and eligible small merchants remain outside the charge.

The bigger question now is whether businesses absorb the cost or pass it on to customers.

Mumbai’s Ganeshotsav may be over but some of what was left behind is getting a second life.

The BMC collected nearly 8 tonnes of shoes, sandals and slippers abandoned around pandals and procession routes during the festival. Instead of sending them to landfills, the footwear is being cleaned, refurbished and upcycled by GreenSole Foundation.

Usable footwear will be distributed to children through BMC schools and NGOs while unusable material will be recycled into products such as school bags and mats.

Mumbai’s premium homes are getting even more expensive.

Prime residential property prices in the city rose 6.2% year on year in Q2 2026, placing Mumbai eighth among 46 global cities tracked by Knight Frank. The global average was 2.6%.
