PATNA: High drama unfolded in the capital city of Bihar as Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers, led by party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, staged a massive protest against the state government.
The demonstration quickly escalated into a tense standoff at the prominent Dak Bungalow intersection. Party workers gathered in large numbers, raising anti-government slogans and marching toward the administrative zone. Security forces had placed heavy barricades across major transit points to restrict movement and maintain law and order.
As the crowd swelled, agitating workers attempted to break through police barricades. In response, security personnel deployed water cannons to disperse the surging crowd and prevent further breach of the perimeter. Despite police warnings, protesters continued to push forward, leading to brief physical scuffles between demonstrators and the police force.
To bring the escalating situation under control, police intervened and took Tejashwi Yadav along with several prominent RJD leaders into preventive custody. Authorities confirmed that the leaders were detained to ensure public order and prevent traffic disruption in the heart of Patna. RJD leaders, however, strongly condemned the police crackdown, calling it an attempt by the government to suppress legitimate public dissent.
