#NewsUpdate|The protest by sanitation workers of the Tinsukia Municipal Board, demanding a salary hike and permanent employment, has continued for the past three days under the initiative of the Harijan Sanitation Workers’ Welfare Centre.
According to the protesting sanitation workers, on Wednesday night, police personnel and some youths arrived at the protest site and allegedly assaulted them. Following the incident, the sanitation workers have accused the police of physically assaulting them.
Meanwhile, serious allegations have also been levelled against the protesting sanitation workers. According to the allegations, a pile of accumulated garbage was set on fire, and the glass of a vehicle belonging to the councillor of Ward No. 4 was allegedly damaged.
However, the protesting sanitation workers have completely denied these allegations. They claim that the accusations against them are false and that they did not engage in any form of violence at the protest site.
Amid the ongoing protest over demands for higher wages, permanent employment and their rights, the conflicting allegations from both sides have created a tense situation in Tinsukia. Various sections have called for an impartial investigation to establish the facts of the incident.
