#News || Assam could potentially experience a major earthquake measuring around 8.5 magnitude, according to geologist Dr Abhijit Bordoloi of Cotton University.
Speaking in an interview with a private news channel, Dr Bordoloi highlighted the seismic potential of Assam and the adjoining Himalayan region. His remarks have drawn attention to the state’s vulnerability to major earthquakes.
However, the statement should not be taken as a prediction of an imminent earthquake. The 8.5-magnitude figure refers to a possible future seismic event based on geological and tectonic conditions, rather than a forecast of when an earthquake will occur.
Assam is located in a highly active seismic region and has witnessed several powerful earthquakes in the past, making earthquake preparedness and public awareness particularly important.
