Bokaro: Delhi Public School (DPS), Bokaro hosted the 37th Aryabhatta Mathematics Competition (AMC) 2026, bringing together 1,398 students from Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha. The event culminated in the felicitation of 45 top-performing students across the junior, middle and senior categories.
##Priya Ranjan felicitates young mathematicians
Bokaro Steel Plant Director-in-Charge Priya Ranjan attended the programme as the chief guest and congratulated the winners and participants for their performance. Forty-five students who excelled in the competition were honoured for their mathematical prowess.
##DPS Bokaro tops overall scores
DPS Bokaro secured the highest aggregate scores across all three categories. Following the competition’s tradition, the host school passed on the rolling trophies to the next highest-scoring institutions. Hem Sheela Model School, Durgapur, won the trophies in the junior and middle categories, while Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bokaro, emerged winner in the senior category.
##Winners receive trophies and cash prizes
The prize winners were presented certificates, mementoes, trophies and cash awards. The recognition marked the culmination of a competition that tested students’ mathematical ability, logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
##37-year-old tradition continues
The Aryabhatta Mathematics Competition has been organised annually by DPS Bokaro since 1988. Over the years, the event has grown into a major platform for nurturing mathematical talent and developing an interest in the subject among schoolchildren across eastern India.
##Ranjan urges students to follow Aryabhatta’s spirit
Addressing the gathering, Priya Ranjan praised DPS Bokaro for sustaining the initiative for 37 years and urged students to develop a strong “thirst for knowledge”. Referring to ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhatta, he encouraged students to cultivate creativity and originality.
##Ancient achievements inspire new generation
Ranjan said pioneers such as Aryabhatta made groundbreaking contributions to mathematics and astronomy without the technological resources available today. He urged students to draw inspiration from such achievements and remain curious, innovative and committed to learning.
##Principal highlights importance of mathematics
DPS Bokaro principal Dr A S Gangwar congratulated the awardees and recalled the vision behind the competition. “Mathematics is the language behind today’s data-based world. People need to interpret graphs, statistics, rates, ratios and data,” he said.
##‘Every problem has a solution’
Gangwar further said mathematics teaches an important lesson for life — that every problem has a solution. He urged students to remain optimistic and approach challenges with confidence and a problem-solving mindset.
##Cultural performances add colour
The programme began with ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by the welcome song and school song. Students also presented a dance performance celebrating the spirit of excellence, adding a cultural dimension to the academic event.
##Koshish trainees receive certificates
Certificates were also presented to women trainees who successfully completed vocational courses at Koshish, a vocational training centre for women’s empowerment run under the aegis of DPS Bokaro.
##Celebrating curiosity and excellence
The event concluded with a celebration of mathematical achievement and the broader values of curiosity, perseverance and continuous learning, reinforcing DPS Bokaro’s long-standing commitment to nurturing young talent.
