The Hon'ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, conferred the prestigious Padma Shri upon Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh, and a renowned Sowa-Rigpa practitioner, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of medicine, at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Dr. Padma Gurmet has played a pivotal and pioneering role in securing official recognition, regulation, and the sustainable development of the traditional Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine. To preserve this medical tradition, he has successfully led the indexing of over 1,500 historical texts, the documentation of 525 medicinal plants and 1,200 medicinal formulations, and the digitization of several invaluable manuscripts.
